Linda Kochmar has served on the Federal Way City Council for the last fourteen years.  She was voted by her colleagues as Deputy Mayor twice and as Mayor.  She also served as Chair of the City’s Land Use and Transportation Committee, Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Human Services Committee, and as Chair of the Finance, Regional Affairs, and Economic Development Committee.

Regionally, Linda was honored to be voted by 28 of her fellow Council Members in King County as Chair of the Suburban Cities Public Issues Committee.  Additionally, she’s served on the Executive Board of the Puget Sound Regional Council, the King County Regional Policy Committee, and many other regional committees.

Linda moved to the Federal Way area in the 1970’s so that her Pilot husband could fly with the Reserves as McChord Air Force Base and as a commercial pilot out of SeaTac Airport.  Tragically his plane crashed in 1981.  Although widowed with 3 children, she remained in Federal Way while working on her Master’s degree in Public Administration.  She volunteered in her children’s school and the community until she became involved in the city’s successful incorporation committee.  Linda remarried and raised 6 children.  She is now single and devotes her time to improving the community.

City Council Members

Linda has a BA degree and is a nationally certified Risk Manager.  She is employed by Lakehaven Utility District, the largest water/sewer District in the state as their Risk Manager.  She is a long time advocate of families, small business, public safety, and quality of life.  She helped build the City Hall, which is completely paid for, and the Community Center.  She’s actively lobbied for money in Washington D.C. to improve the City’s streets, provide COPS Grants for positions in the Police Department, and Community Development Block Grant money for human services.  She also helped created the City’s Municipal Court.

A fiscal conservative, Linda has worked hard to keep taxes low and to help small business. Voted “Best City Leader” in 2008 and in 2010 by the readers of the Federal Way Mirror, Linda has consistently listened to the concerns of her constituents and acted as a steward of the public trust.
